How many Arborists graduate per year?

I was thinking this today,whats the total number of graduates seeking work each year in the UK?

 

How many Colledges,Polytech's,Short Courses,etc are being run?

 

It would be interesting to see how many advertised job opportunities there have been in the past year vs how many have graduated.

Many years ago I was told the average career length of a tree surgeon after training was 18 months, don't know how true it is, but I do know a lot of lads that have left our game and are doing other things.

Many moons ago I did a very worth while course at Merrist wood and I can be certain that probably 20 out of the 24 dropped out of the game as soon as they discovered that it's really tough and can be really scary and it's not actually heroic at all.

 

I've since employed young chaps who had done similar courses but spoke of more optimistic figures. However, within a year of graduating they started hearing of deaths and major injuries with their former group! That invites a whole thread doesn't it. Sorry.

Well I "graduated" a mere 2 months ago, after waiting too long to discover what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Now I hope eventually live up to the title of arborist after years of hard work and learning that i've got ahead of me....unless I become a millionaire, then I'm off!

This gets you thinking! I wonder how many recently graduated people of the mature variety compared to the younger variety stay in the game. Bet the ratio is in favour of the elders statesmen (and women)!

Googled it.There are Bloody heaps of "Treesurgeon Courses" in the UK.There may be over a Thousand Treesurgeons graduate each year.
