We let our college recruit have a go with this Ash - I don't think his CS31 prepared him for this

 

Luckily no harm done to man or beast and the next lesson was how to dismantle difficult trees

looks like the gob wasnt deep enough, still good learning curve for him, least he knows some of the dangers up close and personal now only way you learn

Awww give him a chance Ash can be a pain in the arse, i would usually do a dog tooth! or even a scandinavian cut (donno about the spelling) but that is a great, especially with the breaker bar!

It was a case of very scared at first and then giggles afterwards. He was very hesitant during the back cut and, instead of being positive and going for it, he started to nibble at the already cracking hinge.

 

Amazingly it all happened in very slow motion and he managed to clear the tree with plenty of time.

 

We take on a college recruit every year for work experience; you have to let them have a go at most things in a controlled environment to gain the experience and confidence so they avoid hurting themselves when they go solo!

I'm surprised you let him start making a back cut, when he had cut such a tiny gob.

Pull rope looks very tight?

 

A already leaning tree and a bit of over zealous pulling looks to have contributed to it somewhat.

 

Still, he's ok and he will have learnt something from the experience.

I think this is really good of you to post this up bjam

 

It's a very good reminder to the less experienced looking on, of what can very easily go wrong without the correct level of experience to fell a tree like this.

 

Out of interest, which type of course is the student on?

& do you happen to know how much saw time they are given at felling?

Poor lad that must of been a bit of a schock for him glad he is ok .

thats good it happened slowley so he was able to move away and watch the action nice pics.
