the deader and more exposed the better, if the bark is off and the trunk is white then they are like iron as Huck says, if they have died with in a wood and are covered in moss and slime then thats more fun, i did a dead one in a rookery last years, slippier than a slippy thing. I served my time on dead elms, cross your lanyard if you want for better positioning and if you do slip then it will hold you. Thump in your spikes and hold on tight, i actually looked at a big dead elm today, no one else wants it, he he i will be like a rat up a drain pipe:biggrin:. crash crash crashitty crash:laugh1:

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
