I've certianly learned to appreciate the kit I have lately. I started out with a 1978 Cherolet pick up, some old rock climbing gear, a silky and $300. Now days I have a 12" chipper with a 100hp cummins engine, a 3 Tonne dump and all the climbing gear and saws a guy could need. The clutch went and bell housing cracked on our dump and I ended up with nothing to chip into for a week. Well I thought, I used to haul brush in the back of my pick up and survived. Talk about apreciation for the things you have week. Went from one load of chips every 2-3 days to 5 loads of brush every day, not to mention the time spent going to dump each of those loads. I'll take my chipper and dump any day of the week.

This has just come up as someone reacting to the post. To follow from this 10 years ago I now run 4 vans, brand new forst tr8 coming in the next week or 2 to replace a 2 year old tr6, brand new tracker grinder just ordered and we are arb approved contractors.

Work for it and the the future is yours to make.

Nice one man, must be an awesome feeling finding this orginally thread and seeing how far you've come! Hard work does pay off it seems, even though sometimes it doesn't look like it.

More importantly (IMO) are you making more and enjoying your work?

Sounds like you've made it.

I'm still at the Vauxhall Vivaro, 2 saws and a bucket of climbing gear stage!

Rock Machinery chipper is on a pallet heading my way though :)

Come back in ten years and tell us you've done better, there's a challenge.

Stick at it fella, if you work hard and are reliable you'll go a long way.

Nothing wrong with that, some of the most proficient and best paid climbers I know work out of the boot of a car. A couple of toppers , some climbing kit  and a wealth of knowledge can serve you well.
