The only rope I've found comparable to Teufelberger Xstatic (11.7mm) is Liros Safe Plus Static (11.5mm). Previously called Tango StatX or Liros StatX. It's actually more static than the Teufelberger.

Marlow used to be great, but its on par cost wise with yale cordage rope,  both have limited stretch,  good for knots etc,

Also I have an old decommisioned rope and its rather strong to put it mildly.

Only problem fault with marlow can snag on leylanndii gads/ sharp stubs

Was Marlow ever a good rope to climb on? should be the question.

Like I said I’ve not looked past x static last 5 years Joe , it’s good to have some new recommendations though so thanks, I miss that about the forum !

It's a bit slippy to begin with. Same as most new lines. Seems to work with most systems though. Are you still hitch based?

It looks like the newer ropes are slightly better, but personally I'd reject being rescued by someone climbing on marlow

Still on hitch based , I’ve tried most mechanicals going and they where just not for me … I did change recently to an apex wrench though which I really liked to start off with as it tended so well but found more recently it binds the hitch up solid so I guess I still need to add some friction and have a play but I just don’t get the time like I used to to fine tune things.

Ive gone back to Yale Blaze recently. I like it both SrS and MrS. Im on the light side, so skinny is good for me with the wrench. Find it very static for long ascents. Havent used any mechanicals however.

Couger non CE, is the one I use with a BDB.

I also have tachyon and x static.

The Xstatic is stiff and doesn't flatten much which makes it hard work on the BDB. Fine with the RRP, but aren't they all?

Tachyon is stretchy and annoying in any length more than 20m.

I think I heard that Globe 3000 is better due to less stretch but can't get confirmation.

I only spent 5 minutes on Google but that seems to be a sailing rope? Then adapted to use for Treemotion bridge.

I have some Kalimba to use next but not actually climbed on it yet.

What I actually use on everyday work climbs is still the bit of Yale Hedera which is about 5 years old and been nicked/spiked and trimmed down to about 20m by now.

Slightly fluffy and comfy like old slippers, soft and easy to knot, doesn't flatten in RRP which I never ever have to adjust between spruce, leylandii, wet, dry, summer, winter. Nice and short so less tail to manage and drag around. 11.7mm is a good compromise between easy grip and low weight.

Seems really the ideal rope is a compromise, if you do taller trees then thinner could be important for less weight. Longer rope walks you might be glad of less stretch I guess.

I think I'm going to get another device to put on the Kalimba for bigger trees and then keep RRP on 20m of Hedera/blue tongue for everyday, but I'm holding off to see whether it's Vertec - or the Reflex turns out as good as it might be.

Have you tried Kalimba, Matty? I've got a couple of lengths of it and so far it's my favourite.

Only very slightly more stretch than Squir (which I also have) but available with a splice and a lot nicer in the hand.

With either of these ropes is recommended to soak them overnight and allow to fully dry before first use to get the best out of them.

Squir has been my second favourite to date. It knots well enough and is very static.

My fave ever is the non CE Donaghys Cougar Blue. That stuff is like steel cable! It appears to only be available from Donaghys in 100m and I want 60m🙄.

What's all this news about soaking them overnight? What is the advantage?

Thanks.

Al.

I was on a job in California recently and a couple of the guys were rating Globe 3000 for a work rope.

That's all I know🤷‍♂️
