Chimney sweeping - how much?

Just had a sweep round to clean out chimney for log-burner and flue from wood-burning Raburn, £30 each! Is that too much? It only took about 20-25 minutes for each one.

£60/hour and all you need is a small van, good vacuum and a set of rods with two sizes of brushes and a few dust sheets

I think thats a fair price. If he told you the price before he came round you must have been happy with it, if he didn't you should have asked. If the chimneys had been packed with soot and had taken him 1 1/2 hours you would have been as happy as larry, the fact that it took him under an hour you are disappointed. Its his gain but you have lost nothing. I'm not trying to be funny about it, its just my thoughts. We pay 35 to have our chimney done and I think its good value even though he usually gets about a pyrex jugful of soot out each year.

You sould like some of the custmers I've come across in the past:thumbdown:

So he was on site for half an hour and charged £30 and you think thats his wage:001_rolleyes:

So he does not get paid to travel to site??, answer the phone when you rang him??, clean his gear at the end of the day??

And what about his pension??, holiday pay??, sick pay?? tax??

We pay £35 to get ours done and he's usually done in 30-40 minutes. Cheaper than a chimney fire though.

Same here, to be honest i dont mind paying 50 quid to have it done, its only once a year and deans right a bit of soot and in the wrong house all hell would break out. cant be bothered to do it myself, getting rods and soof everywhere, we harp on about getting a "pro" in so 50 quid to have the chinney cleaned is spot on.
