Same, too many to mention but in the last week alone there was a runner broke through barrier tape as if it was a finish line, a taxi driver that drove round our signs and cones to stop right at me, standing with chainsaw running in front of a decent sized tree over the road, he said because there were no signs at the last junction I couldn't close the road so I stood aside and told him to carry on then, 3 point turn and away he went, then there was today. Unimog and trailer set up in school playground and skidding limbs to it with alpine tractor. No work while kids are on breaks policy, it was like being in a riot! We sat in the mog at lunchtime surrounded by a ring of "playground escorts" in hi vis keeping the screaming hordes at bay, incoming balls of all sizes, scooter collisions, a cone was stolen.

 

The public in general are a nightmare, but going by today the future's bleak!

I tend to just watch out the window when the road is closed, spot the car go left, spot the car go right 30 seconds later. No doubt cursing that they didn't take the 1 minute longer detour - always well signed too - but now have a 5 minute detour to turn and take it.

Peasgood makes an excellent point about the boy who cried wolf. Similarly, I expect a level of assertiveness from someone asking me to keep out of their work site but, as a member of the public on a piece of public (my) property, I won’t tolerate entitlement. I’ve worked with plenty of gobshites who think it’s their divine right to tell people to stop, wait, go around etc. I remind them that it is we who are causing the inconvenience and that we should kindly ask people to stop, wait go around etc, not demand that they do. That kind of respect (or usually lack of) just radiates off you.

Number of times I’ve seen the public barge through sites from up a tree - many. 
Number of times the public have got arsey with me, treating them with deference and asking, not telling them to wait - none this last decade.

And since I haven’t evangelised about helmet comms this week yet, this is another time they’re great. I have many times tricked an otherwise arsey groundsman into being nice to the passing public by using an assuring tone of voice and words like, ‘ask’ and ‘please.’ It goes into their ears and then comes back out of their mouths. 

 

“Fuxcking stop that fxcking bike.” is just going to make someone stamp over all ready for a barney.

I agree to an extent but some times they are too quick to be able to be arsy let alone polite and at the end of the day you can have all  the signs , cones , tape and barriers you like . If you kill someone you are still liable .

Runners and cyclist, babes…folk who have been walking the same path for the last 50years and won’t deviate straight through the work zone are another. 

I find doing TM jobs the worse though , for abuse and threats, I had one tracksuit wearing knacker light up his BMW tyres when the light went green and the car went side ways past us in the working lane , I’d just come out the tree a gave him the hand wank signal , he stops , gets out and gets right in my face yelling do you know who i am , a babe ? Is my reply and I unclip my topper off the belt waiting for him to go, he looks at me and says what you gong to do with that hit me with it? …  I just looked at him and said nothing but was expecting to have have to crank it and wave it around raving furiously reving but luckily I think he realised the predicament of fighting a chainsaw and went back to his drug dealer bmw and went away … which is probably fr the best as it probably would not of fired up anyway being a husky.
