Just looked at the list of exotic Lamborghini and Ferrari type stuff in the over 255 emissions table but tucked in there are some fairly popular pick ups and work vehicles

Toyota Hilux 2.8D

Toyota Land Cruiser 2.8D

Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 TDI
Ford Ranger 2.0 TD EcoBlue

Ford Ranger 3.0 EcoBlue

Ford Ranger 3.0 V6

INEOS Grenadier 3.0

Seems these trucks are gonna be in for a  first year hammering tax wise soon. £5490 as I read it !!. I might be wrong but if it’s the case that’s my 68 plate Ranger gonna be going until it dies. Pure lunacy and as business unfriendly as it could possibly be. Well done Labour.

Is this just the first year or every year?

In France, larger CO2 emitting engines are taxed at first registration capped at €60k for 194g of CO2 per km

This has effectively crushed sales of pickups.

The Ford Bronco which sells here for €74k has a €60k registration tax.

Doesn't yet apply to commercial vehicles.

First year only I think, I think it’s being revamped next April. My accountant was running through it with me but I zoned out after 5 mins. Looking at the list of vehicles it affects it’s a pile of super cars and big SUVs plus a few well known pick ups , ridiculous.

First year, drops back to £190 after that unless list price over £40k. Don't know if that would affect a Ranger but certainly Grenadier.

If your Ranger was registered before 2017 it would be over £700 a year ongoing, that makes the first year £5k look more like a front loading of the tax.

Luckily my defender is prior to 06 so capped at £400.

It's all really complicated, I didn't realise all these rules and then everything changed in 2017.

Well whatever it is it’s definitely driving me out of the market, that plus the rate at which they have gone up. My 68 plate wildtrack was £28k plus vat new on a Ford 0% business deal over 4 years.
That's the qoute I’ve had to swap out.
To me those are just crazy numbers and nowhere near worth it to drive a new motor. Not sure where the twin cab market is gonna go after April 25 but I’m definitely  gonna be just sitting tight.

That's silly money.

I have a question, my mate, many many moons ago used to own a company with the same name as yours: 'Willow North Ltd.', did you buy it from Joel Begley?

No that’s actually a typo Mark

possibly a dialect issue over the phone. His not mine of course.

Yeah the  cost is nuts combined with the new tax increases and VED rates after April I think Red Rachel  has just killed that sector . I don’t think it will bring in anywhere near the money they think as people will just not buy them, as I’m doing.

I had a mate called Willie Angus, he had a rotten cold when he ordered train tickets to be posted to his. They were delivered to 'Willie Bangus'

I looked at a price for a new Hilux (out of interest as much as anything) - the current one is coming up to 3 years old and I wondered if it was worth swapping whilst it still holds decent value.

Turns out a new equivalent is 25% more (after discount etc) than mine was in 2022 - that explains why 2nd hand prices have held up so well but destroyed my man-maths justification to buy a new truck!

Ridiculous money. I paid similar 2016 Navara. Don’t strictly need one these days so have no intention of getting a new one at that money. Rather treat myself to something a bit cooler
