There was a bloke selling a TW150 somewhere recently. He put something along the lines of “more sought after than the later more complicated 230”

I couldn’t let that go so I made some comment or other.

I mean build it up a bit sure, but flat out bullshit is ridiculous.

It's when the vehicle won't start so will need towed away on a truck, they're desperately trying to flog it for half the value it would be worth, and they say "only needs a new sensor, very quick fix for someone, I just don't have the time"

So, err, back to the original topic.

 

Like I mentioned, I'm hoping up upgrade from our battered old Passat to a pickup. Did we reach a consensus in the end that, yes, there will be a surge in available second hand pickups after Christmas? I'm already looking for a few options over the border, are those options going to start looking more appealing?

I’m not really talking about your Passat Peds, obviously.

I suspect that was bought and paid for years ago!

 

I suspect the market will see a surge next year, especially in towbarless vehicles that have never done any real work.

Or even had 4WD engaged!

Ahh, kind of at the other end of the scale, the Passat... it's a 2008, and I don't think I paid much more than the year for it, cash... 

Funny story, the guy was selling it because he said the seat was too low for his wife... I agreed, it was awfully low. First thing we did after driving around the corner was pump the handle a dozen times to lift it up a bit higher... 

Anyway, it's dealt with a lot since we got it 5 years ago, I've asked her to do things any reasonable Passat would shudder at, and she's starting to show a good bit of wear and tear!

 

So the advert will read more along the lines of

"Half-crippled VW Passat seeks quiet lay-by to disintegrate in. Not recommended for spares or repairs, everything is already f*cked.

Disingenuous reason for sale."

You never know, you might get more than you hope for, if the right person sees the advert. There's a certain amount of luck involved in selling a knackered car. I sold my old van after the engine finally gave up the ghost, the turbo to be specific. It was well and truly c*nted, starting to rot underneath and gone through far more MOTs than expected, so didn't owe me anything. I thought I'd get £50 scrap value at best or maybe even have to  pay someone to take it away. I stuck it on the 'Bay and it got snapped up for £400. I was overjoyed. A couple bought it, and all they wanted were two rear doors. It was to be a donor for another identical van that they were doing up as a camper. It went off on a trailer behind said van. Like twins, very sweet! Wish I'd got a photo.
