Wasp nest in ground

Peasgood is right of course.

But for the sheer fun of it I'd try chucking in a Crow Scarer and then plugging or putting something very heavy on top. Very quickly. Those things are the closest you can get to dynamite.

Great idea I'll get some for next time!😆

Had a similar experience with hornets in the garden; reacted badly to my first sting and I'm told by several people the next one will be worse

The solution?  Keep away from the nest.  So I have

Luckily I have not been stung by hornets, I don't remember them in the garden before ten years ago and never saw them as a child.

I got stung a few times last year by wasps when the dogs and I blundered into a ground nest in bracken, this summer we only had the occasional visit while in the garden despite an active nest in the roof thirty feet away.

I generally take that view, leave them alone and they'll leave you alone.  But been trying to build a logshed nearby and they keep trying to attack me, the sting on sunday is the last straw my arm still swollen 48hrs later.

Anyway, I've got a drum that i pour any old contaminated/stale fuel and used cooking oil into.

A jug of that mixture followed by a lit firelighter down the hole last night seems to have done the trick. Nothing happening this morning.  More effective than the foam.  Mind you, the foam might be a bit safer if it was a nest near the shed or in the loft!

The petrol fumes kill them without need for fire.

At the risk of being too serious.

Wasp and bee attacks kill more people than crocodile and lion attacks combined (at least in the UK)

Once the Asian hornet gets a real foothold on the UK that will increase.

Many people are allergic to the stings and need to carry an épi pen to avoid dying from just one sting.

That puts everything into perspective, with all of the crocodile and lion attacks that take place every year in the UK…

How do they compare to chav-dog attacks out of interest?

To be equally serious a couple of folk have suggested I carry one ready for the next hornet sting!
