Hedge / tree removal after nesting season.

Question

Can someone advise as to when I can take down a lot of hedging and two large Cherry trees?  I ideally would like to also find someone near Basingstoke who offers a shredder and operator service to shred down the hedging and tree branches and take away the vegetation.

Just need to get the hedging down asap before the weather gets too wet and cold.

You may do it at any time as long as you are not disturbing nesting birds. The chances of a nest in a cherry tree are low but an inspection will ascertain that. Hedges tend to be a bit more of a problem to investigate.

You also need to look for bats roosting in trees, with rot holes and flakes of bark they can get under.

Also, as to your suggestion about shredder - obviously I can't see the job or site but when I look at a big tangled pile of branches made by a customer my heart sinks, it's a lot of work untangling a mess stacked every which way vs cut and chip as you go.

I'd suggest get prices for someone to cut and chip, or just chip, before you cut it all down.

If you are able to take down the trees and hedging safely yourself, you are also well able to throw it into a chipper from your local plant hire place yourself too, and it'll be a lot cheaper.

Like others have said, I'd not be biting your hand off to tidy up a pile of shite someone else has made.

That said, there are people out there who offer such a service, so you might get the job done just fine.

Spot on Dan.

I’d probably charge more to chip a mess than do the whole job.

This.

Get a price from a local tree firm to carry out the cutting and removal. Ive been to jobs where the customer has cut 'stuff' down and made a right mess, it was more expensive than us doing the job from the start.

It may be a different kettle of fish if its roadside and someone can come along with a big chipper and a grab.

A small tree can be a nightmare to drag out if its been stacked for a bonfire and the timber thrown on top!

There are a few unpleasant tasks in tree work but I think the worst thing you can hear is chip customer's existing brash pile. I've never once liked doing it.

Ah can you not chip old fence then? Sorry there might be a few more bits in there....
