I was booked to have wisdom teeth out 30 year ago but couldn't make the appointment, never have got round to it and listening to these tales I'm glad I didn't.

 

Current dentist says let's take them out if we need to, not just in case. Likewise the temporary crowns I had put on after hockey stick at school are still there, not broke so don't need fixing.

30 years ago, I had a sideways growing one out 7 years ago and needed a bloody expensive specialist as they don't like the risk of you waking up and hitting someone or dying, whichever.

 

I'm not sure if everyone played the who had the largest hands game, but they could have atleast bought me dinner.

So I've got a dentist appointment on Thursday at midday for a filling. I've not had a filling for a few years so can't quite remember what it's like apart from it being numb at.

Should/can I go back to work in the afternoon after the filling or would anyone advice against it?

Ask for a white one as opposed to an amalgam one....

I had impacted ones so had to be put under general anaesthetic. 
 

It started my 35 year love affair with painkillers.

You never know, it could have been the same bloke. Mr Ackerman from memory. His nurse is his wife and his wife is his nurse. Freelances all over. Goes to my practice once a month and does ten in a day. Was in Portsmouth the day before. Said he gets flown out to the middle east to do some sultan or another's surgeries.

I can’t remember his name, but he was a specialist.

This was in St. Albans.

 

I went back to work in the afternoon with stitches in my gums and basically drooling blood.

Bad idea.

I suspect the drugs and/or tools and/or techniques have come on. Mine were ten ish years ago and not nearly as traumatic as the older generation present are making out.

I had to have dental surgery under iv sedation last year. They doped me up with midazolam. ( I think I have that spelled right) You are not safe to work for at least a day after it. 

Some stuff. Its no wonder vets and dentists etc.get hooked on these things!

It's also part of the cocktail for lethal injection in the US. I can see why. Never been so chilled out in my life.

3 extractions including one wisdom tooth, 2 root canals a filling and two porcelain implants over 7 and a half hours split between two appointments. I pretty much half slept, half giggled my way through it. They just kept giving me little boosters of it.

Apparently I kept coming around and asking the dentist to sell me his land cruiser 100 series amazon. Both times.

 

Turns out redheads can have a higher tolerance for most painkillers. Its genetic. I wouldnt mind, im only 30% ginge at most. Anyway, I found this out on my first proper trip to the dentist as an eight year old. The local anaesthetic did next to nothing for me. It was agony. This kept me away from the dentist for a number of years, until it was unavoidable so I just went private and got it done right.

All that said, if you're not ginger and haven't ignored the state of yer teeth for a decade or two you should be fit for light work after a couple of hours!
