Boss - Ok that's great news, then you won't mind doing a drugs test (available at chemists or online)

Subbie - Errrrr

I wasn't aware drug test kits can be bought at a pharmacy... What do the kits test for? Is it a piss test or what?

If its true, it changes everything. Buy a handful of kits and request the whole team to take a test. No calling victimisation then.

There are loads of test kits out there from Boots, Superdrug, Amazon etc. Hair, mouth swab or piss test for most common recreational drugs. If you had just cause to suspect someone and they denied it this could be an easy solution. Also if you offered to get the police involved to clarify things then their reaction should tell you all you need to know. If it's a genuine error (Lemsip/powdered milk) then they will have no resistance to a test and you can get back to work.

Funnily enough I was talking to one of the football dads from my sons team yesterday and he said drug use is so rife offshore that he has refused to continue with rope access because he doesn't trust any of the would be rescuers if he got in trouble. I said arn't there random tests and he said because staff are so hard to come by they dare not do any!!

I've just googled what you're supposed to do in this situation and it is bonkers.

Basically, if you don't have policies in place you need to help them overcome their addiction, pay for time off for rehab and you can't just fire them as its classed as an illness!

Luckily as long as this guy is a genuine subbie then this won't be the case.

Be cheaper just going halfers on a bag then??

Legit though, help the fella or at least try to before you send him down the road. Makes you feel good doing something like that for somebody as I've done it in the past.

Sending him down the road can just cause even more problems for him if he's not earning for his kids and his addiction
