Chipper hire to other arborists

Do other people hire chippers to local arborists, especially those you may know well.

If so do you charge the same as a hire company or do you just cover costs of parts etc?

Only really talking about people you can trust to not put iron rods through the infeed!

I suppose what I am saying is there such a thing as mates rates for such an expensive bit of kit?

Shakey ground to be treading in my opinion. I don't really like lending out saws let alone a chipper so would be very reluctant. Insurance implications aswell.

It would have to be to a VERY select couple of people, People who you know and trust 100% and know that under their guidance on a site only they would feed it.

Yes i have lent mine out to a local guy to help him out of the sh1t, he's competition actually but he gives me his grinding so im happy. not something i like to do often but its on the understanding that any damage is paid for.

hi yes I hire my chipper to my subbies,,,when theres break down,,,or for what ever reason,,,on the condition that if ought breaks they fix it,,,,same goes for if its stolen,,,,and at mates rates,,,,,and vica versa,,,,not sure i`d let it ought to strangers,,,,

It comes at a slight premium though, 'cos I'll be feeding it.

do not hire your chipper out unless you know the end user. Last summer we were using a 6 inch, hired jenson over 12 hours a day for 3 months with 3 people feeding it and even though it was not abused it was ruined. There is reason that the cheapest tracked chipper you can hire is over £400 a week, £20,800 a year.
