Bar size for training

The training providers specify a max bar size of 15 inches. 

Why is this? 

I get that the max tree size must be specified but don't understand the restriction on bar size. 

Arguably a larger bar makes it safer and is better on your posture, less bending etc.

It’s painful enough watching candidates sharpen a 15” chain.  Every extra inch further compounds the agony that instructors have to endure.

Think they were 13" bars on ms260's when I did mine....

Its  so you can practice the techniques for bigger tree on smaller trees like boring into the centre of hinge cuts  etc.

 

Also its the bar length that suits best the 40cc -  50cc saws used on the course & the tree sizes that are felled on the course.

I did mine with a 16" bar, used to be difficult to get a 15" on Stihl so hopefully they'd still have a bit of leeway.

I dont think any one will be going round with a tape measure, so just crack on and say nowt, i never known a trainer check bar lengths,,

15” guidebar is the requirement, you will get this information sent to you by the training provider before you start, why would you show up with anything different?
The Stihl light type is 16”, I will allow adjustments for that as it doesn’t come in 15” and the narrow kerf makes it very easy to control for novices. 
You show up with an 18” or 20” and you won’t be cutting on my course or being assessed, my jobs on the line so I always check this along with ppe etc.

Simer down a bit, read the original post regarding a 16"bar NO one  mentioned a 18 or 20" bar only you,,

I’m making the point that 15” maximum is the requirement, so turning up with anything bigger and “crack on and say nowt” isn’t going to happen.
