That's very true, I did keep it short to highlight the stupidity of the idea of 20mph.

 

Having lived in Newport for a few years I would hazard most of Wales alleged pollution is just from the M4 bottleneck.

 

It was bad enough almost 20 years ago before they rebuilt the universities and made students travel even further.

That's what gets me Mark, in the places it could be a benefit traffic is crawling along under 20 because it's busy anyway, and places like Jed have subways under the main road for pedestrians already.

I was in the New Forest recently, when I was 18 or 19 year old we used to rag across the forest at 70+ but now it's all a National Park and 40mph. Quite weird to drive there now.

 

Seems to me no politician can increase the speed limit, that would be a danger to children and the elderly. Tightening up speed limits is increasing road safety so a vote winner.

Passed my test in 82 or 83.

Used to thrash the arse out of our cars here there and everywhere.

Motoring for pleasure is finished, cameras everywhere, in car computers will probably dob you in soon, new cars already nag the bollocks off you about tyre pressure, seatbelts, and anything else.

Get used to it, like it or not.

They're terrible aren't they! The oh has a new Hyundai hybrid thing through her work and nag describes it perfectly. It never stops with alarms and warnings for anything, a white line or a hedge or just anything. It even turns off the radio if you reverse so you can concentrate on all the warning alarms it blares at you.

 

Reminds me of a documentary about Air crashes and the experts discovered years ago that often problems were exacerbated by all the warnings in the cockpit overloading a pilot with information.

We have gone back to older vehicles for this exact reason. I don’t need or want a load of bleepy shit to tell me I’m going to back into something, I have a shiney thing that lets you see behind you stuck out on either side.

We are all (or should be)perfectly capable of checking the oil, water levels and tyres once a week with out a computer.

I can also fix older stuff with out some spotty computer geek needed to find out what unnecessary sensor has just shit it’s self and charging me silly money for the service I don’t want!

The older I get the more I worry about where society as we know it is heading and I’m not exactly a grumpy old bugger - grumpy quite possibly but not so old!
