What can I do with this bog yew?

I've been given a tree trunk which I'm told is Bog Yew and I have no idea where to start on trying to refurbish it.

I was hoping to make it into a table.

Could I ask for some advice on this forum please.

That’s the root plate and very well cut for coming out of a Bog. 
 

I suppose you could could cut it so it sits stable and plonk a bit of glass on it and call it a table?

 

Personally I,d put it through the log splitter and burn it. 🤣

Not sure I've ever seen any yew with that degree of soft punky wood before, and out of bogs here in west cork tends to harden fibre rather than soften. ☹️

Not sure you have what you think it is,maybe pressure wash and or sand blast then see what’s left

Agreed.  The rot on the top of the stump suggests the tree was in someone's garden and cut down some years ago since when rot has begun where the wood's been exposed to the elements.  The stump has then been dug up, cleaned and the roots cut, probably by hand

So do you not think it's yet? I've no idea myself.

Is pressure washing likely to cause damage if I do it lightly?

Doesn't look like yew to me, certainly not bog yew. If pressure washing damages it then its feck all use for a table anyhow.

 

I'd chuck it away personally. Not worth spending any time on.

Agree. Looks very like some drift wood I saw come in on a high spring tide, last month. Someone with an artistic flare might do something with it.
