When there are too many to:

1. Know what they fit

2. Have them all ready to use.

I fall foul of both of these😅🥺🤦‍♂️

I'd say I have 40 chains, not a huge amount over nearlt 20 years working, especially as I've bought  saws used from domestic owners that came with 4 spares!

I'm going to deal with it by dropping the whole lot of for sharpening (yes of course I could it myself,  but I don't want to in these quantities) and tell them to bin anything that they don't think is worth it, at their discretion.

Then I'm going to match them all up to a saw/bar, label them and I'll only use 2 of them (1 on, 1 spare), replacing them only when they're worn out. Well that's the theory 😅😅

I've probably got 30 or so, maybe more hanging up. Trouble is  many different saws and different chains needed for those. Plus milling chains. And also it seems a good thing to get different chains and try them out and see which is best for what job. imho. I quite like a number of the different oregon chains for one saw, have recently bought some Archer full skip chains to try them out and some times one needs a good stihl milling chain or a lo pro milling chain to get the job done.

Sorting them one day wouldn't be a bad idea, but then you have to keep them sorted. so I find it easier to just hang them up and find the one you need when you need it. Although in most cases I just buy a new chain when I feel the need. 👍

Best thing I ever did was switching to only 2 sizes of chain. 24inch/84 link on the 572s and firewood processor and 15inch on the 550s and 560s.

Rotatech do 10% off if you buy over 10 so I get 10 of each and they last at least a year. When I get down to a couple left I buy another 10 of each.
