That'd be the best outcome. Difficult to imagine leaving the kids and all the rest behind really, but people do.

The continuing water search strikes me as a bit desperate.

A man near here disappeared a few years ago, found personal belongings on the beach and a huge sea search ensued.

He was never found, no body was ever found, and after having been headline news for several days the story dropped off the radar over the following weeks.

He had a son the same age as our boy, they'd been to primary school together, and a year or two after it they bumped in to each other somewhere. No sure how the conversation came around but it turned out the father had done a runner and was alive. Our boy wouldn't be one to get involved in other peoples personal lives so didn't ask much, but they knew he was alive and wasn't coming back.

So as you say, it happens.

Not desperate Doug, just trying to cover all bases.

I was surprised at Lancs Police coming out with 'we think she fell in the river':  it's the kind of thing they should say only with evidence to back it up.  There will be serious egg on face if events prove them wrong.  Even in this touchy feely age Police should be dealing with the facts and evidence; upsetting people with the truth is just part of the job.  At least it should be

Not hearing so much about the search now. Saw the specialist search group had pulled out of the search a few days ago saying they were confident she wasn't in the water. But Police still searching water while saying there's one route away from the scene not covered by CCTV and asking for dashcam footage, it seems they're struggling. Not sure they've many options left to make any progress.

I aint seen it on national news for a few days now but on our regional news every night, all so a lot on local FB groups, the police are now looking for a tatty red renault van that was parked on Hall lane the morning before (approx 200mtrs from the bench where nicolas phone was found) where this van was parked it would mean crossing the river but the next bend down stream its very shallow and would of been a easy crossing may be knee deep, i have said from day one that there is a 3rd party involved in this case ??,, One thing i will say is this family have been let down badly by the police on this one, they kept ****************ing about searching the same 2 or 300yds of river day in day out, then 2 wk later decide to start searching down stream, i am busy tomorrow but i think tues and wed i am going to go and join the search would of done it earlier but been working 7 days a wk for last month,,

Thanks, good to hear local knowledge, it's intriguing. Keep us fresh with any news you hear please.

What are volunteers doing, still searching the river bank?

It was a good distance downstream Mick, but I totally agree with your thinking.

The only thing I can think is that there is a sizeable weir about 300m downstream of where she went missing - I have worked on the flow measurement site associated with this a number of times and have watched canoeists get stuck in the stopper which forms on the downstream side.  I can only guess that her body may have been caught up in this, underwater, but would have thought that the search crews would have given this a thorough going over?

Not sure if the river is tidal as far up as Rawcliffe Road - if so then maybe she was brought back upstream by the tide?
