Is there any reason for not sharing a vehicle VIN

Are you sure?

For years now you need your copy of the V5 plus ID to get a set of plates at your local Factors and places like Halfords. Never tried on-line though.

Always bought trailer number plates off eBay, every time it asked for v5 info have never filled that bit in and always get plates.

Halfords will not expect firearms ticket as ID so stuff them.

Like most things in life, it's who you know, not what you know. My mate bought a new bike recently the number plate that was on it was Illegal, to small, he rang the garage where he has his bikes serviced and ordered a new plate over the phone, no logbook, no ID required. Ok, the bloke knows him but he shouldn't have made the plate without seeing the logbook. First picture is the original second one is the new one, its deliberately blurred so the garage name can't be read.

I'd ask what's the issue with his vin, if it's just a case of mods he made not matching the original number then that's a forgivable sin!

if he's trying to pull a fast one and clone yours his story will probably have holes in it bigger than the sills of a transit.

His VIN will not lead him to the throttle assembly gubbins as fitted to my rather rare  RHD turbodiesel, (being only 1 of 30 sold in the UK, and the rest were near all car types except the few sold to Sussex Fire Brigade, which again were different in respect of payloads, extra long wheelbases, HD axles etc, my van being essentially the same running gear as the standard 5 door car type, except with kastenwagen=van bodywork ), which throttle assembly gubbins he wishes to mate to the electronic controlled IP on the OM606 transplant engine.

Cheers all

He took it off before it was sold.

What was the point in selling the car then?

Clearly it never put the enthusiasts off though. Easy to get a replacement Vin Plate based off stamped Vin numbers that are most likely around the body.

Seems like an odd thing to do.
