Gator oils from ebay seem good value. I fine the et40 is about right. Iso150 if I remember correctly.  Quick delivery too. I used to buy by the 210 litre drum but it doesn't seem much cheaper nowadays to buy in bulk.

my limited thoughts on this are yes you need it to stay in your bar and chain but you also want it to fling off so its self clearing . just think if it isn't clearing fast enough how your chain and bar will clog and cook itself or how much will build up in the chip ejection area . 

just my thoughts i may be wrong.... and according to her indoors i am .

One of my previous customers use to buy theirs custom made extra tacky, said it was the only way to keep oil on the bar working in the woods in the middle of summer. 
 

Downside was it was an absolute pig to pour out in the cold weather!

I’m just getting to the bottom of a 205ltdrum from rye oils, have let it down with about 15lt of diesel to make it usable, you could almost slice it it was that tacky .

I use Clark’s bio oil in the summer and plain rapeseed in winter (with exception of long bars) 

The oil is flung off the chain in an aerosol and it not only covers bare skin, but will be inhaled too. No way will I ever use mineral oils again!

Just wondering, why do you use the Clark oil in the summer?

 

 

Rapeseed has gone up in price, 20l drum was £30 something a few weeks back

I find that the rapeseed gets too thin and does not lubricate as well when warm and I was seeing heavy wear to the bars, especially when felling

No surprise there then.. Why on earth would anyone use cooking oil in their saw?? I have a bit to do with old motorbikes and there are always people on about what oil to use. I always tell them the same, "what ever the makers told you, your bike has lasted 70 years so far, so i think the makers might have specified the correct oil" I doubt the saw makers tell you to put cooking oil in it..

 

Each to their own though..
