No bonfire pretty much anywhere here (France).

All the more incentive for clients to to give it the old “while you’re here with your machine would you mind if…”

I call those people morons. As In, they add some more on 🤣

This thread has been a fantastically entertaining read!

I think OP's original solution should have been to tell the neighbour they can pay for the tree cutting if it concerns them that much, and if not suck it up and wait until he has the funds!

I've seen some DIY attempts over the years, none look good.

Bloke down the road from here had two massive Leylandii  topped and the bottoms are now about thirty feet across and they want levelling to the floor and rooting out but I bet he doesn't want to pay again.

I don’t know what’s in the pile, I have had countless clients swear blind that it’s all clean wood etc. only to find wire, roots or stones in it.
I normally only chip what I’ve cut myself.

Yes, like most of us, I have learnt to just say no. Reassurances about nothing adverse in the pile is about as reassuring as customers who tell you there are no birds nesting in their hedges in Summer.

This one really annoys me. And it's always the uber-greenies. People who petition against roadside hedge cutting, burning, etc. But when it comes to their own hedges, the birds can go do one.
