Unsure what the mystery is about the use of a well / natural spring?

Mystery is in the stone steps design?

Step wells are common in india.

Guessing maybe some  local rich bloke who had travelled there got the idea to tart it up at one time with the fancy steps?

Or maybe a sheep dip but design looks wrong?

Looks to be a "sod hut", often constructed in the woods by charcoal burners, bark peelers, coppice workers. Simple timber frame, and then covered with bracken, heather or sods (turf). Just made as a shelter for the seasons work. This could be a charcoal burner, basket and probable riddle behind.

Any ideas? Believed to be Forest of Dean.

A few years back in the Forest of Dean I went in to the local coal mine. It followed the exposed coal and descended slowly for a few hundred feet. Entrance looked very similar. Although Sod Hut is more likely.
