I didn't realise that defending what is right had a price cap.

Not everything is transactional, not everything is a zero sum game. Sometimes good people just have to stand up against bad people.

I think I feel the most pity for the poor Russian conscripts. At least the Ukranians know what it is they are fighting for. The Russians are fighting a needless war of aggression to fulfill Putin's imperialist fantasies of creating a Greater Russia again.

I'm quite surprised that he's not been the target of assassination attempts yet. Would all this end if Putin died or would something even worse take it's place?

The ball was dropped in 2014 J, the promises made regarding protection and security were forgotten. I’ve mentioned the shit on the boat I was on between pro Russian Ukrainian and Nationalist Ukrainian guys at the time several times previously , the Skipper “ a Canadian “ told them it was their choice leave the boat or leave the political shit on the quayside.

Not being selective in the blame front but the German governments of that era and its energy policies played a huge part in how  the situation is now. Not sure what you are confused at 42 ? This didn’t start 3 years ago.

Here's what's going to happen in the next few years, chaps: Russia and USA will become friends. China/Russia/US trifecta. There's your multipolar world order for the remainder of the 21st century. European countries will vote populist right and join the new order as second fiddle or...fade away. And that includes the UK.

It's not an altogether preposterous idea it's true. How do you factor in Israel and Iran though? The US and Israel are bezzies, Russia and Iran are bezzies, but Israel and Iran are sworn enemies. That's going to be one big, busy, uncomfortable bed.

It's a great shame for the Russian people, and the rest of us, that Putin was able to get to Navalny in the end.

I very much agree. I listened to The Rest Is Politics interview with his widow, Yulia Navalnaya yesterday. What a remarkable and brave family.

I agree that 2014 was the inch that Putin took, that emboldened him to try to take a mile in 2022.

And too much reliance on Russian energy is true as well. Many mistakes made along the way in terms of curtailing and containing Putin, but ultimately, the responsibility for the invasion and all the death falls firmly in his quarter.

100% in regards the responsibility part. If anything this is a massive wake up call for all the NATO members that it’s time to spend and build up the armed forces again rather than living in complacency and hiding under the US umbrella. As is the case here a Politicians timespan is limited, there’s always been a strong isolationist element in the US look at WW2 and the likes of Lindbergh. Definitely dangerous times.
