Cleaning ropes

Hi everyone, I'm sure this question has been asked before but I couldn't find anything when I searched.

How does everyone clean their ropes?

I've recently done some icky sticky trees and now everything is caked up! (At least it smells nice!) I've heard of guys who put them in the washing machine just no detergent. Not sure how I feel about that. 

Anyone else has tips or tricks to clean ropes?

I have a dedicated works washing machine for such things (after a bollocking for using the domestic one for the task🤣)

 

I use non biological detergent and the ropes come out perfectly clean even after the stickiest of trees, even monkey puzzle.

I invested in some rope detergent and the rope cleaner gadget that goes with it. I think you can get both for under £30. Cleans rope in the bath tub. 
 

Works great and you get multiple washes out of a bottle.

FR Jones sell this. Not sure if they have a non-binary version for you though

I’ve only washed my ropes two or three times, in last 28 years.

The results weren’t that good.

Nikwax has a rope cleaner, which also acts as a water repellent.

For removing resins I’ve heard people using a mixture of vegetable oil and dish wash soap ( fairy ) for example.

but you need to be quick.

I very occasionally do mine in the washing machine. (When she's out or not looking!) I use old fashioned soap flakes as they're very mild compared to normal detergents. I also do it on a low temperature wash, 30deg.
They always come out looking lovely, so worth doing I think.

As above, but with non-bio.

Tie the rope in an electricians braid first to avoid tangles.

We use a Beal rope brush and warm water with a little washing up liquid in the sink. Then in the washing machine with a rope washer like Steve posted. Can’t say I’ve done it many times tho.
