It looks bad from that angle but it's not really any more dangerous than pushing through a circular saw and I'm guessing he has a control to bring it down since it stopped when he finished the log.

No but it wouldn't meet PUWER with no guarding and the lever operated with the right hand leaving left hand free. A clamp holding the log before the splitter and dead man controls..

 

Anyway it looks from the weld marks that it started out as a box splitter.

First thing you got to do when buying a splitter is disabled all the safety features. They're unusable with them in place. Building from scratch no problem, obviously... There's passive safety features, like chainsaw pants, which are great, and active features, some of which are worthy, and some not.

Very nice guitar music but watching that I could feel my fingertips wincing.. any lack of concentration and they'd be gone but he seems to be in control so I suppose it looks potentially worse than it is as does a lot of heavy machinery👍

 

It would be good for dispatching politicians tho😈

Looks fine to me . I would use it . He is dictating when the blade comes down . Foot operated or his other hand . great music .

 No worse than any other splitter, it will just have your finger off quicker than some - there is no point prolonging the pain!
