Folding chipper spout

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at putting a extension on a chipper we are about to buy so it can chip into a bigger trailer which is really straight forward for me to fabricate up but want to make it so it can fold down when being transported so not to clatter anything.

Anyone got pictures of any tidy home or factory folding spouts they would mind sharing for ideas.

What chipper / chute is it? The best way is probably to cut the chute in half, weld a "base plate" to each side, hinges at the front and an over centre Protex style clamp at the rear.

We done a few but dropped that style in favour of other ways of doing it. Being a manufacturer,  we got far more responsibility to protect folk. In theory, a folding chute has to protect folk from being able to access the rotating flywheel by sticking their arm down the tube!. Hence the micro switch on a QuadChip or the sprung loaded flap on the Evo165D.....

I remember one of your design chaps telling me that when I asked if we could reduce the overall height of a safetrac, so if it turned over it wouldn't touch a train.  Not that any did turn over in my time, it was a NR rule called adjacent line running.

They'll straddle the rail then like they did with the Hilux.  Rail Roaders and trolleys only on the rails where I worked but much removal of panels to get machines in for off track work.
