I'd never go back to a manual. Especially if I was doing the miles it sounds like you do @5 shires

Most auto boxes have the option to manually shift too anyway.

Only annoying thing with them is if you are off road and bogged down its a lot harder to rock the vehicle with and auto.

Thanks for reply and yes I heard a lot of autos have a manual feature...worth getting the right one as next truck I get will have to last me a good 5/6 years.👍

Nearly all my driving is on roads with the occasional foray off road. With that in mind I chose auto as it is just so much simpler than manual. I remember being a yoof and cursing all those old buggers who drove autos. Now I understand why they did!

As mentioned above most have a semi manual option also, I found this very useful when fishtailing down the A66 once!

My family/non work car is a manual and I recently took it on a two week holiday to Cornwall and Devon. Let’s just say I missed my auto box massively!

Out of interest how long does it take for your cars to get upto temperature ?...bought an old golf which now takes nearly half an hour

How old a golf? Sounds like the thermostat is not working right, try starting from cold and feel if the top hose gets warm quickly, it shouldn’t. Had an old triumph torledo many years ago and swooped the thermostat every six months, one for winter one for summer running.

Hi yes it’s a 99model .only been driving it 3 months but seemed ok in the summer

seemed a good buy for not much money with only 35k and very up together .but mpg terrible and even driving it ultra smooth still only gets 26 mpg.normal driving is low 20s

probably selling it in January with a new mot

I get better than that with my 5 litre V10 Touareg! 🤣

31mpg is the best I've had on a long run. 16mpg the worst on heavy towing on back roads.

Auto for on-road use, definitely. I also had an Isuzu Trooper years ago that had auto box but with separate selectable transfer box, that combination was ideal (but drank like a fish).

The golf still a good car which would probably easily do another 20yrs

maybe there is a market to export these sorts of vehicles  .
