Test cutting back in 2018 with the 462 and 500i

The difference in torque is very noticeable, the 500i nearly pulls the log stand over.

Is it actually a faster chain speed though ?  or does it just get up to full chat a bit quicker .

On paper it is quicker, by a tiny fraction that you need a computer to check.

First thing I noticed about the 462 (and the dealer said it too) is how quick it revved up. It’s really quick. 
 

I know everyone moans about how saws are getting too complicated, but would anyone genuinely go back to a twenty year old saw rather than what we can buy today? I know I wouldn’t.

I dunno dobin, I don't think there would be all that much difference between a 254xp and a 550, and the 254 will stil be working hard years later.

I still use a 353 that must be years old, althou had an easy life for a long time as a fencers saw, who actually looked after it, unlike most fencers I've worked with.

 

Really not sure about these computeridpsed carbs, seemingly husky still make all the decent 3 series saws just not for the EU market

I have a 462 and really like it. Haven't tried the 500i though so can't give a direct comparison.

 

At the moment it has an 18" bar on it with a big sprocket for supercharged ringing up.

 

The only slight niggle I have with the 462 is that it is difficult to tension the chain fully when the saw is hot.

 

I don't know if this is a design flaw or just me being a Norbert.

Hot things stretch or expand,  chain should be cold on test. If its tensioned hot , it will bite bar when cold ( contraction ) fag method is best .  K

We have a MS462, it’s a great saw, weighs about the same as the Husky 562xp with noticeably more power and great balance on a 20” bar.

best way to explain a 500i is to imagine a saw that picks up and cuts like a 560 but is 80cc
