What is the word for "someone gets a job they cant do and get a quoted job from me"?

So have you quoted for the whole job, taking it over from the original firm, maybe paying them a fee but they have no involvement in how the jobs run? If so, that's the bona-fide subcontractor that eggs was talking about.

I think you're about right with contract climber, that would be you if the original firm took the job from the client, and hired you in to help them complete it. The main job contract is still with that firm and you are supplying labour and skill (maybe tools).

A sub contractor normally means that a person works for more than 1 company so they sub contract rather than go directly employed. UK law stats that if a person works solely for one company continuous then they will need to be employed.

It not relevant how many companies you work for...  an employee could work for 3 different firms each day and a sub contractor could work for one company for 6 months or longer.. i don't understand why people find it difficult to understand.  Eggs explained it.

Course it matters how many firms you work for.If someone work full time for 1 company they will need to be laid off then taken back on to be ale to be self employed/sub contract to that firm in question.

While duration is only one factor among many that determines whether a worker is a contractor or an employee, six months is usually recommended as a safe duration and one-year should usually be considered an outside limit, assuming that the other independent contractor criteria are met.

You are just confusing the matter further.

The correct terms have been described plenty of times over the years, in the thread as well.

Most people use the term ‘Subby climber’ ‘Subbing to Xyz etc’. When in fact they are no where near being classed as a Bona Fide Subcontractor.

The sooner people stop using the term Subby it will be a hell of a lot less confusing.
