It is understood that the body became so concerned about the surge in cases in Leicester that they sent a team of officials to the city at the weekend to investigate. Analysis of data collected by local health bodies shows that many of those infected recently have been young men aged 20 to 40, often from an Asian background, many of them working in textiles and food.

Leicester’s garment factories have been the subject of concern for years. A report by the parliamentary environmental audit committee last year found that wage exploitation was flourishing in the city and across the sector more broadly. MPs behind the report heard it was an “open secret” that many of the 1,000 or so factories and workshops in the city were paying below the minimum wage.

Allegations come as city begins second lockdown after infection rates increase

Kind of predictable it would spread in such conditions

It’s an illustration of just how shite our system of government actually is. Tories are in charge (they’ll get the shit for what’s wrong) but can’t see any other outfit having done it any better (or much worse for that matter.)

Some truly staggering oafishness being reported today, exampled:

You can get married but must wash hands after exchanging rings - who dreams this rubbish up? Wash hands then consummate the marriage. What’s the point and who, exactly is going to ‘police’ it?

The ‘government’ will issue fines for children not going back to school in Sept. Did the education secretary not understand the current law of school attendance and the actual process for parental fines for persistent absence?

I could go on, like you say Leicester, only enforceable in part....

All this has done is to reinforce the potential benefits of anarchy - laws, guidance, advice from central government buffoons is becoming increasingly laughable and ridiculous.

It must be fairly painful to have to spray your sensitive parts with hydrogen peroxide or other disinfectant before consummation on your wedding night!

It's also shown the viability of anarchy - unfortunately - at least in the short term. In America mainly. The police can't stand up to large coordinated mobs. Government unwilling to crack down. Saw it with the Travellers here in Ireland, no funerals allowed, but when 200 Travellers showed up in Cork for a funeral - and the state knew they were coming - they provided a police escort. Rolled out the red carpet in contravention of their own laws. Saw it the the "protests" across the water and this side. Police were bullies, hassled people for mountain hiking but backed right the **************** down when faced with large groups. Normal people need to start using this tactic. Just show up to do whatever, in a thousand strong group. Who's going to stop you?

Hancock, and his firm said that they knew about the problem in Leicester 12 days ago and did nothing about it. Bring on the clowns.

They don't know if they are on their arse or their elbows.

Everybody knew about it, even the BBC

Leicester sees hundreds of confirmed cases in two weeks, while an outbreak in Yorkshire is reported.

Said to be centred on "religious houses" set up by Shia and Sunni sects in the 60's in terraced houses. Still actively used by the now elderly  Asian folk as meeting places. Told to me by someone that would know more than most on the matter.

That would no doubt be an unpalatable truth for some, the simple fact that ethnicity does play a part in the individuals susceptibility to the virus is ignored. What we get instead is yet more media driven hysteria ref racism and the virus etc etc,

People need to take a look at what’s actually going on right now and the amount of power being exerted by authorities on individuals. Classic example is the mayor of London demanding even more powers, it’s often quoted as power is addictive and several of the figures in the news regularly would seem to confirm this. Scotland is dying economically yet Sturgeon refused to do anything even though the virus is virtually eliminated.

Sadly i fear she will do lots,  i imagine once winter flu comes in as normal and odd more covid pops up amongst it she will be going for lockdown again.   she always seems to want to do it in every talk...can always go backwards again!

soon there wont be anything worth saving in scotland because we will all be broke, unemployed and depending on meagre benifits from a broke goverment.  We need to get moving more than ever in terms of economy.

food bank use is climbing more than ever with some food banks simply running dry which means families left to wonder where next meal comes from.

How is that possible with the hand-outs these families get? Food is ridiculously cheap, its so cheap its subsidized at almost every stage from field to plate. You can feed a family of 4 for a few quid a day.

Dont know how but i guess maybe lack of earnings currently is playing a large part, either way its getting worse and currently doesnt show signs of easing.   Can honestly say if we are all in a position to chuck a couple tins or packets into local food bank as a donation each from this site alone the improvement be great each time we shop.    Dont know how many members arbtalk has but for literally a couple more quid each thats a fair old pile food.
