Went with the 550xp mk2. George Carr in Bristol delivered it this morning. Along with some Aspen2 - first time using that.

Thanks for all the input. looks like a nice saw, bit bigger bodied than my 346xp but feels nicely balanced. Can't wait to have a go with it. Have a load of Ash and Sycamore to process.

Are there any guides to saw maintenance on this site? If I'm being honest I probably didn't look after the 346 very well.

Cheers

Dave

Agreed talk to Spud. But basic is:

  • Keep air filter clean
  • Keep side casing/chain break mech clean
  • Blow/brush out the intake fins on the pull start mech periodically
  • replace sprockets/bearings when they need it
  • Don't run it blunt
  • Use decent quality 2 stroke, Husqvarna XP or Stihl HP, there may be other types available
  • Rotate bar when you sharpen. I see quite a lot badly worn on the bottom.
  • Its also worth periodically checking the bolts, muffler ones expecially can vibrate loose.
  • Grease the sprocket bearing.

Sorry if I'm teaching your granny to suck eggs, but I look after a few saws for mates and its amazing how some really basic things get ignored.
