How Often Do You Clean Your Glass / What With??

Recommended Posts

Same here, ash haze only.  Gets a wipe with a bit of newspaper ball I'm using to start a fire maybe weekly, and a wipe with damp kitchen roll every couple of weeks maybe..... It's nice for a day or two before building up a bit of haze again

Has anybody ever tried Isopropyl Alcohol

Not for cleaning stove glass. probably better for dealing with stray virus at the moment

or see any reason not to at least try it??

Expense when water is good enough for fly ash and oven cleaner for tarry deposits, which of course don't happen with a good burn of dry wood.

I get that on my Burley . I think it is peculiar to the Burley stoves . I have changed the inner glass ( they are double glazed ) once in about 8 years . It goes sort of opaic (spelling ) but when its a light I don't really notice it .

Hi Stubby,

We just moved house & there is a Burley Debdale fitted, it`s a great wee stove & is so easy to operate & clean as there is no need to empty the ash very much. But I have the same problem with the glass being opaque as you had & have tried everything to clean it, but nothing works as it looks permanent. I thought the previous owner had run it too high for long periods & that is why it is discoloured, but maybe not! Is it easy enough to change the glass? looks like only 4 screws holding it on! 🙄

Yes its easy enough . This time round I bought the " dry " glass cleaners . Bit like a washing up scourging pad . Was quite surprised at how good they are  . They come in Burley packaging and are recommended by them . Once you change your glass give them a try .

Very occasionally get a little bit of build up on the glass, I never clean it, but miraculously it disappears quite quickly - either from the next burn cleaning it or the Mrs who’s annoyed at the slightest restrictions on her view of the flames (OCD has its uses! 😆)
