Couple of things I’ve wondered about electric cars in general -

.potential to catch fire if pulling trailers or being overworked .bit like what happened to a cordless drill of mine maybe

.When it catches on more the national grid can overload when everyone charges at the same time after work ?

Will renewable sources be able to keep up with growing demand

Early adopters have the hassle of shorter range but a bigger subsidy over purchase.
But once they’ve come down in price to be a more viable purchase and the range is better they’ll drop any subsidy and whack on black boxes and charge by mileage. Otherwise the revenue loss will need to be covered elsewhere

We are also in the process of looking into this. I can't get my head round the whole benefit in kind thing. Being only newly formed as a ltd company I don't really understand the difference in company vehicle types. I will post if/when I get a better understanding. That Jaguar looks mint!

You basically are going to pay a shit load of tax, you pay a % of the cars list price when new, this % is determined by the fuel/engine. Then you pay either 20% or 40% of the above figure depending on how much you earn.

To give you an example, a shitty little 1 series 1.6 diesel costing £28k would see you paying £1400 year @ 20% and £2800 @40%

There are easier ways to extract the cash out the company.

These figures are different for electric cars I believe

I have just seen this image on a BBC news article and I cannot believe this is the way forward.

eleccar.jpg.3fce0a3c100265b1d3a849cfd20ebccc.jpg

1, who would want there whole street lined with phone box sized units like these?

2,How many footpaths are wide enough for these phone box sized charge stations, the cars usually park on the pavements around most areas I go so add the charge points and parking become even more hassle/restricted.

3,Copper cable thieves who usually risk there lives on railway lines ect can now just walk down a street late at night cutting as many cables as his habit needs, easy money.

4, Children /teenagers/scum will unplug your car to wind you up.

5, Trip hazard cables on footpaths don't seem like a good idea, A+E units through out the country will be full of drunks who tripped and with people who stare at there phone whilst walking.

6,The bit that plugs into your car will be left in the road by some and driven over by others.

7,Parking ,in the pic its got to be in the marked bay and in a certain direction to minimize any cable trip hazard ,people will park wrong and cables will be stretched into the air ect.

I am all for the elec car but with pics like the one the BBC shows it would seem like its going to be a nightmare and I think unworkable if this above pic is how its going to be.

I was discussing this with my dad yesterday, particularly the issue of rows of terraced houses etc, and how people will plug in. We come up with the possible theory that they will introduce 'smart roads' in the future, much like the wireless phone chargers you sit your phones on to charge. You will simply park at the side of the road and your car will charge, and automatically bill your credit card.

The cable is locked into the car/charger electronically, so you either unlock it when you return or set it to unlock when you are charged so someone else can plug in.

No tax charge at all from 6 April this year.  It is as you say based on vehicle type (well emissions actually) and electric vehicles are zero rated.  So no tax to pay for the employee at all.

not quite, zero emissions vehicles will way 1% 21/2 and 2% 22/3. No figures past this but its going to go up.
