Bit of an afterthought but why don't people like chaps as opposed to trousers??

They're nice and airy in the summer :002:

For commercial work.
You're not insured.
I hear class A is to phased out also.
You can wear chainsaw thong and flip flops if it's your own land.

the wearing of protective gear when using a chainsaw is not, and cannot be made enforceable, H&S, and puwer, advise for its use, but user discretion is also allowed..i.e. in a situation when it might be to warm and the risk of heatstroke, and other things like this.  the whole argument about chaps or trousers is  pointless because its like comparing apples and oranges, and as for protection....look at the rating ...1,2, or3, this refers to the chain speed in m/second, and as most folk  are wearing type A's with a rating of 1, anything with a chain speed faster than 20m/s will penetrate the trousers, the bigger the saw, and shorter bars gets worse, check out FISA advice for large saws....min 2's, and better 3's, same with boots

Chaps are not accepted on chainsaw courses anymore. (Since 2016/17).
I heard the phasing out of class A from several instructor/examiners.
