Safety Gear - Order Of Importance

I know the obvious answer would be all of it but if you've never worn any chainsaw specific safety clothing and decided it was long overdue that you should but were going to buy it a bit at a time .... what would be the order of importance i.e. gloves or trousers / chaps.

 

The only things I do have at the moment are some standard safety glasses and ear defenders ... not sure how important it is to have a helmet as I'd probably get one of the all in one's if it is and it's only for cutting up logs for a burner not for felling trees.

Id say in order of importance fro high to low

 

 

Helmet with visor

Trousers (don'y like chaps)

Boots

Gloves

 

But some common sense  with regards to chainsaw use is more important that all.

For Firewood cutting
All the same : eye and ear pro, class A trousers (as above chaps are for strippers)
helmet - visor is useful, helmet not so much as nothing should be falling on your head!

Looks like it's Chaps are for me then ?     I'd empty a room pretty blooming quick if I did ?

 

Think I may go for the all in one helmet / visor / ears as have often thought it'd be useful even just for strimming and lopping low hanging branches and some trousers initially .... great thing about Xmas round the corner :-)

Get online to Screwfix and buy the Oregon trousers and boots, plus some nice safety glasses and ear defenders. Ideal for what you need.

I'd say others are right with common sense, then training and/or safe techniques ( not standing inline with bar, knowing about kick back etc)

Then I'd say a tie between boots, trousers and helmet.

 

Chainsaw gloves are a complete waste of time and offer  no worthwhile protection.

 

A lot might depend on how cut ur firewood?

On a bench or on deck boots more important

Surely helmet first? Hearing damage from no ear protection is an assured outcome and likewise it will chuck bits of wood at your face sooner or later.

Then I'd go boots because a lump of wood will land on your toe.

Even my dad wore a helmet and steel toe boots back in the day, with his chainsaw protective boiler suit.

Why is a helmet rated highly especially if I'm not felling and all my work will be waist height or lower ... I did mention I have ear protection ( already have buggered ears from drumming) and have safety glasses ... is it because kickback might hit your head??

 

Have very much taken on board the comments re common sense as well!!!!
