Opico Skidster or sherpa mini loaders

Brilliant thread this, starting a bit of a shopping list for a wheeled stand on machine, is anyone using the stag machinery log grab? Be good to hear any views on it, and if I'm right thinking it and the klou  grab are the only two fixed type grabs available for the smaller machines with a free float setting for skidding? Thanks

On the sherpa I just use a small ratchet strap to hold the pin up, though honestly only done it a couple of times and more as an experiment,

I use a drillcone from time to time but always feel, that the few logs are not worth the expensive machine hours of the mini.

I have an Opico mini skidster m10x. I looked into a log splitter for it. In the end I decided to buy a petrol stand alone log splitter so then I could carry it to where I wanted to work with the loader, then utilise the grab on the loader to lift up stems and crosscut them into rings off the ground etc

The splitter running off your loader will tie your loader up and it won’t be available to shift timber about etc.

That’s how I see it.

A loader as a base unit makes an expensive splitter!

 

You can buy a decent splitter with a petrol donkey engine for about £1.5k.

 

Or even a hobby 7t one like mine for a few hundred, but that still does about 50m3/year.

I used to run one one on the microbull. Worked well for us, but marks right about losing the loader to other stuff.
