What you want is the air powered spade thing that Lidl sometimes do. Available on eBay if they don’t have it.

need a compressor too but it’s what you need. A breaker is too heavy and it’s hard to find a long point. I’ve tried it but the air spade thing is way better.

no no no!

you need a bobcat E10 and and auger !!!

I have that too mate but the air spade is very useful. Often goes out with the E10 for tricky footings where we have to hand dig a bit in heavy clay.

Coming to landscaping from the building trade, I'd only ever use a hydraulic breaker with a power pack. They're expensive but nothing else really matches them. JCB Beaver is the industry standard but Belle do a good one as well and it has about the lowest vibration rating you'll find.

They're a lot of dosh but they'll do a hell of a lot of work.

Used ones are often nicked or knackered so beware, but there are reputable companies selling refurbished units for half the price of new.

Bearing in mind that a landscaper's breaker isn't going to get a fraction of the abuse they get in the building trade, a refurbished Beaver will probably last you forever.

Alternatively, consider a Makita cordless SDS Max. You can buy 500 mm long spade bits and long reach reach chisels for hole digging.

I used to have a hydraulic breaker, didn't find it much use for post holes. Too heavy and awkward, hard to get it to stay on the offending rock, if it slid off it would bury into the soil and be a pig to pull out

I've got the same drill. Handy for certain things, but I found the breaker force pathetic compared to a similar electric machine, and not a patch on the air spade thingy. Also very heavy to use.

Yes, bought one and sent it back but the second one is much better. None of them will ever replace a proper jack hammer, I just like the portability of petrol tools and the non reliance of batteries or a power supply.

I've used this one... a lot better tool quality wise than the generic Chinese versions but a bit light, the cheap screwfix type will break rock no bother but like I said ..keep it dry and no spares available....I've got this one at the moment, can't really complain about it considering the price,

That hammer is OK for the money, but I'd take this every time just due to the anti vibration being sooo much better. Ran he Titan type above for years but no going back now. Also feels much more solid in use.
