Two Rope Working Consultation

Still have not used it.... until I price flapping around like joey deacon in a tree for hours in a tangle it won’t happen either... I might have two lines to get an anchor but as soon as any major work happens I’m writing it out on a risk assessment, too dangerous.

What compliant systems would you be training these novices on then?

I'd love to see the novices doing a limb walk at the end of the week, using two prussics. Just doesn't look possible given how awkward descending is - normally that's pretty easy.

Agreed, but I bet this is fairly standard throughout the industry.

If this is the case then this is surely an ‘Industry’ created problem then, not a training problem.

When I did my 5 day CS38 I certainly wasn’t the finished article, where any of you?

I also wasn’t sent out as the rescue man on technical climbs with such little experience either, maybe I just got lucky and worked for a pro firm straight from college.

For a start there are no 'compliant systems' as there is no training schedule for this change yet. So personally I feel as though aerial rescue training should be on the back burner. It's crap for training companies, technically these guys are training in line with a non existent ICOP.

 

And then I wouldn't be using a setup like that. It's 2020, prussik loops and body thrusting are virtually obsolete in today's industry.

I think the discussion about effective aerial rescue and enhanced or training standards are what we should have had, as opposed to having to fight against this rediculus 2 rope fiasco. We have to look at ourselves as an industry & honestly admit our short comings.

Indeed it is an industry created training problem. 

When the owners of training companies are involved in setting out best practice and course content there will always be a conflict of interests. If the shortcourse route into the industry wasn't so easily available lot of these training businesses would be unviable. 

Yes there are a fewowner operated arb firms that treat rescue seriously.

However most of the large compliance heavy contracts nowadays only go to the lowest price.

In my experience this increases pressure to drive down costs. Lesser skilled ops on poor rates is a easy way to achieve this. All backed up by lots of paperwork and crap training to cover thier asses .
