yep i agree with that the old 260 bomb proof along with the early 261, then it all went sadly wrong, 1 lad who works with us bought a new 261 in 2015 4 month old in for a rebuild then again 5 months after the first rebuild then another 4 months and it was in again so he said fuck it after that, but the new ones are a different saw they feel better balanced and seem alot more zippier,

My local dealer who I expect you will use also? Still says theyre shite... though they never have anything positive to say nowadays... just say to buy battery....

i had a 261 few years back and was a good saw.... need a replacement soon for a 550..... ive considered being as daft as buying a husq 365 to avoid mtronic at all costs.

550 and stihl ms201t are the saws thats peeing me off

loved the older 026

...you could be dafter ;) rebuild old units then. Am not keen on 'the latest in saw technology' after all if you built a good saw ten years ago, why ain't you still making it ? K

Modern 261 is a cracker of a saw.
However I believe there was a carb version early on.
Personally after avoiding mtronic for years, I've embraced it and now loving it.
The things wonky had to do to his 660 to make it out cut my 661.

Same reason they aren't still making Ford Cortinas I expect. Things move on even though we don't always appreciate what is happening. What do we need fuel injection for, carbs always worked for me and I know how to fix them when they go wrong?

Not really, I think saws will get better with injection only thing I don't like is cat converters gobbing exhausts up.
