emoji23.pngemoji12.pngemoji106.pngCheers bud,
Where abouts are you based?
Give a quick call to every tree surgeon and especially foresters in your area.
Being allowed to pick and choose trees standing in a forest is a real help.
And if you pay a decent price...
I get very regular calls.emoji106.png
Arbtalk and Arbtalkers though are by far my best source of logs.

Finally got the big spalted Ash milled, still maxing out the 30" bar.[emoji106]

Then onto a very burred piece of birch.

It was disappointing to find the burrs didn't penetrate the wood very deeply.
Interesting spalted colours though.

Would they not become more prominent once seasoned and then possibly waxed/oiled. I fit oak laminated mdf to my windows as sills. Waxed them up with briwax (light oak) then lightly blow torched over the surface and continued to rub in with a old used tea towel. Shows the grain off really well [emoji108] and matches my oak windows (of the fake upvc variety obviously!?)

May work with the burred areas you mention ?‍♂️

You got a bad piece/off cut ya could practice on?

Will post a picture of mine when sun light dulls off a little, bad to see at min in a photo.

That last pic of yours would be ace as a resin piece i rekon.

Oak burr is much better, goes deeper into the wood.
Some of the burrs fell off when we were milling the birch.
They were almost external to the trunk.
Got some really burred birch to do in the next few days, so I'll find out with that.

The last Birch i milled that had some burrs on went nice a dark when oiled a bit like the Olive Ash you're milling. You're getting some nice boards.

Thanks mate, I've noticed a marked colour change the last couple of days.
