I was surprised too when I first got the call.

The mill is a good tool and I’m glad it’s as easy as it is to change heights especially with two power heads. The winch is awesome! The 881 in gnarly timber seems good at breaking the skids though:

I removed the lower skid and bent the clip bit off so it doesn’t clip the chain.

Tempted to bend the tab out the road too, take it you don’t get any issues with the bottom skid removed?

Yeah that is a big elm.

I see you leave the dogs on the chainsaw. Do you prefer to keep them on? I prefer to take mine off, the saw does look less manly without the dogs. But I think you can get a little better connection between the saw and the mill.

Haven't had the clipping problem myself, but then I have a chinese mill.

Wasn't that big Oak log was shared on the fb arbtalk page?

The general consensus from the pictures provided was it looked rotten as hell, and that picture of you stood in front of the end seems to confirm that?

The last of my simple benches i made for around the fire pit.

Again wrc and legs provided from same source as the others.

Using my router sled I cut out 3" grooves across the outer edge of the slab for each leg identically.

lovely looking bench top there Big Beech, i think WRC an overlooked spp.  especially where grain is a bit wavey on branch and other areas, not so good pics here but some look like folded or quilted silk wrc1.thumb.jpg.f6cb2b7bf5e1605d581382359eaadc60.jpgwrc2.thumb.jpg.4801465ca1f5e34201f4548d1ce70739.jpgwrc3.thumb.jpg.a12ced14dc818e2f1ead9278141c90b8.jpgwrc4.thumb.jpg.5afbbe0488bd578ceaeb3e39d593d7e1.jpgwrc5.thumb.jpg.4c6bf10974f2fc3d0ee1a674b364cd8b.jpgwrc1.thumb.jpg.f6cb2b7bf5e1605d581382359eaadc60.jpgsilk

The dogs get left on as they fit with the skids and it means it’s one less thing to do if I need to use the 881 for things other than milling[emoji106]
