Could not be arsed two years ago to split my own.

paid €250 for 10m2 of old shit, for the cost os a couple of hours trimming something or other to save a full days splitting and storing of my own stuff.

I know, shameful.

Nope- I get this completely. Splitting your own firewood is a time consuming and dreary business. I can’t be arsed with it anymore- I reckoned it took me 3 days to fill my log shed, from first crack of the axe to stacking the final load- much sooner spend those 3 days earning instead!

Good honest thread - takes me back a few years ;)

One simple practice is - look around the room now. What could you do to make the room better? Make it better. Next time you speak to the missus or your son or daughter or anyone - what could you do to make this interaction better? Make it better. Next time you do a task - how could you do it a little better than last time.

You're about to add a post to this thread - what could you do to make this post better?

You get the picture. Keep practising this process again and again and make it a habit. I've not managed it yet but I'm on the path!

I'm very close to the point of not being arsed to do it myself any more. I bloody hate processing firewood. If you totted it up, nearly all of us would be better using that time earning and paying to fill the oil tank.

I find variety is the best thing for me and I try to do everything myself where possible picking up new skills and experiences as I go. If I priced my time at what I charge customers I’d never do anything other than quite boring, repetitive stuff and be very unhappy. I much prefer to be self reliant and that comes with motivation of its own.

Obviously massive mortgage helps when the boring but well paid jobs are on!

Whereas, I love doing firewood and find it relaxing (see, we are all different) and if I can earn doing it, then that's a bonus.

I have more motivation working with people than on my own. I lack self confidence, so find new jobs or situations a mix of scary but exciting. It's easier to beat yourself up about the things your not doing or should be doing, but sometimes it's actually ok to say "sod it" and go and walk the dog.

CRAP! Look at the time, I better get going, I'm actually getting payed to split logs today!

Great stuff chaps

A couple of repeated themes are working with others and money. Not much interest in money beyond paying the bills and we live cheap anyway but working with others more is something I think I should work at. I have been self employed my whole working life and live relatively remotely so spend far too much time on my own. It's why I gave up the furniture making as being stuck in a workshop all day on your own is not good for the sole. Logs at least gets me out and about more but still not got the pleasure of being part of a team. I do help out as a groundy from time to time so maybe should look to do a bit more of that. Only other thought is to up the business and employ someone but looking at all the grief many of you have employing it does not look very tempting.
