Anyone used thunderbolts?

As per the title, these look to be self tappers for concrete has anyone tried them and are they any good or just hype?

 

I attach some 4 x 2 to a concrete fence post and am worried that expansion fixings may cause it to blow, these seem ideal.

Hi, I use them all the time, they work well particularly as you can drill through the piece you want to fix and then bolt it on without first removing to insert rawlplug.

 

The only down side that I've found is that there not high tensile [ at least the ones I've used ] so they don't like going in overly deep without the risk of sheering, the hole needs to be ideally blown clean before insertion, and over time they will probably sheer if you want to remove them, specially the smaller sizes, cheers.

drill and bolt with the 2part chemical goo? no expansion and bomb proof.. my gun safe is bolted to the wall using them and the copper inspecting it said if they get the safe off then they will make a doorway into next door!

Your gunsafe may well be different, but most of the "reputable" brand gun safes, (& fully approved by the home office) are pathetically easy to break into, with nowt but a cordless drill(to drill a 6-10mm dia hole through 2.0mm thick mild steel) then a drift and a hammer to knock the bolts back.

A few minutes silent work.

We clad most of our shed with insulation using them and they're strong enough to hang off once they're in.

Don't use them on the tops of walls!
Cowboys who put our neighbours fence up used them on topping stones.
1 month later the wall and fence were going south.
Otherwise they are good bits of kit.

Been using thunderbolts for years. I tend to use the countersunk ones, with the torx head. I find they are good on concrete posts. The trick is to drill dead centre where there is no steel, and although it recommends a 6mm drill for  the 8mm bolt, 7mm is better on the concrete posts, as usually you cannot get it to screw in otherwise
