What to do with brash?

Hi all,

I was just wondering what everyone thinks is the most efficient way to deal with the brash/ log bits that aren’t suitable for extraction when coppicing? Fire...chipper...slosh it up.. etc

 

Any advice appreciated thanks

Rasher it up in the rack and drive over it .

Totally site dependent mate.

Habitat windrows are good where applicable, but you need to think about placement.

I can’t imagine coppicing without a burn, but it’s all time and effort.

I have mulched off vast areas of neglected coppice over last few years, nobody seems that interested in it around here anymore  and the ones that still do a bit just seem to tit about leaving a mess.

No money in sweet chesnut coppice products or owners just not bothered? 

 

I'd say nearly 100% of the hazel coppices local are not managed at all, but I thought chesnut coppice produced some more valuable products so they were actively managed.

Sell it as fire pit fuel. Bang on about how sustainable it is and whack the price up for townies

It all depends on what max size you are leaving behind 3 inch max would be gone in 4 years if left laying so would be cheapest, but looks a mess when left.

If deer on site put it back on stools.
