I asked a TO many years ago about the 1 mtr (no reduction) reduction he said it was basically a sop to people when the (the council) actually wanted to do nothing.

(a) count themselves lucky (or maybe unlucky) they don't live in Sheffield....

 

(b) as has been said before, sure the council will quote "amenity value" (remembering the very long and passionate thread about that) and that the trees bring pleasure to many (generally without actually having any 'hot-body' to lay this claim directly against) whilst completely ignoring the overt, stated dis-pleasure that is being experienced by the named people.  

 

Tricky one...  Money's tight, trees grow, there's no compelling case to do anything (other than the complaint.)

Uncharacteristically soft Mick ! I think she should ( has already ) bought a tumble dryer - I don't spec' reductions on those grounds , frankly they are  whingers and for once the Internet has exposed them as such K

Amazing what you can do with photoshop looks as if she's standing in 'real'  sunlight or maybe the photographer had a superb lighting setup. Completely blocking the light? Er not quite I think.

Reminds me of a job we had some years back.A youngish couple wanted a couple of maples over the rear fence removed.Our TO gave the go on a prune and canopy lift.We spent a day on them in the winter taking a right good bit of em.

Couple of weeks later we were told to go back and tidy up the mess some plonker had made after hacking them back.

Long stubs,big rip cuts the lot.Looked bloody awful.The TO didnt persue the couple for damage to the tree.

Trees came down....

To be fair they should have been removed in the first place

It's easy to call them whingers but if they are retired people that want to sit out and enjoy their garden then the shade cast by these trees is a genuine 'dis-benefit' to them.

 

I can see why the tree officer won't cut them down as this could set a precedent for other people that back on to other trees along this road. And a reduction would be pointless as the crown density would be the same in a year or two.

 

Maybe the council could agree to the works if the complainants are willing to pay for the felling and replacement planting of a new tree?

That sounds like a suitable compromise.
