Chesterfield developer fined.

On the Derbyshire Times website there's an article about trees felled in a preservation area resulting in about £25000 fines. Sounds a lot for two trees or was it for not following the rules?

Break the rules, pay the fine. The developers probably thought it wasn't a serious issue so just crack on. Surprising how many customers want rid of a tree, find out its TPOd and say "well who'd know". I'd be interested in whether any of the fine goes into replanting in the area or just gets swallowed up by the council.

25k to a developer isn’t a lot really, depending on the development he could gain that back multiple times.

And of course if they can identify and prove which tree firm or guy actually had them down,and diced them up, they can also be £20k lighter in their savings account.

I think there may be a bit more to this than meets the eye. The reporting is really bad, a 'council spokesman said that there should have been fencing up with signs saying that the trees were protected by a TPO'? Since when!

 

Reading between the lines, I think there's been a failure to maintain protective fencing, which had resulted in damage to the trees (which were TPO'd) and then the council may have had to consent removal due to this. So a contractor would have carried out the work legally, but the prosecution of the developers was due to wilful damage - resulting in the loss of the trees.

Nother good result fr us tree huggers  I think reporter got confused with TPO protection and root protection are barriering- bet developer won't do that again ! Wonder where his site arb bloke was ...... k
