The point I was making (not very well !) was that the talk about the wieght of the two was being a little confused by folk quoting Lbs and Kgs and mixing them up, I have seen on another platform someone who was busy telling the world that the 572 is "over 3lbs" more than the 462. MattyF I 100% agree with you on the "work smart" comment and if the situation allows that type of work then you would be stupid not to do it, I tend to do most of my work with a brace of 562s (ported and stock) as I work away from base for the week I carry a 550, 2x562 and now the 572 replaced a 576.

its not 3lb heavier , someone  on some sight had both saws on a digital scale with no bar , no oil or fuel and the husky was 1lb 2 oz heavier which is significant  fair enough but is the stihl chassis strong enough  as its lighter structurally ?

i have a 562 and a 572 and it is heavier , i did weigh the 562 with a 20 inch bar and the 572 with a 24 inch bar and was 2lb heavier i think  and both had no fuel or oil as i drained them , but am not home now so will need to check it again and take photos to show on here

Stihl piston on the right hand side would be my guess ???

Yes.

I'm following a thread from another forum of full 462 build that is very interesting.  The discussion has been around port timing and whether strato timing should be changed.  The consensus has been that the Husky has much different port timing numbers, which is most probably due to the 572's crank stuffers.  Also, that the Stihl has less potential cylinder area for porting gains than the Husky.  Therefore, builders are finding it necessary to modify pistons to compensate for transfer port opening times.

Why would you have to modify either they are working saws ? I get having them muffler modded and a woods port but that’s as much as I want on a working saw.

I think is just " coz they can "
