Old 2 stoke mix is it so bad?

I see endless advise to empty less used machines to avoid stale fuel causing trouble but is it really so bad? Cant say I ever bother now and come to start the hedge trimmer in the spring with old fuel and off it goes within a few pulls. Same goes for our old strimmers that don't get used a lot. I use Texaco fuel and decent oil but nothing OTT.

Just curious how fussy others are :001_smile:

Regardless of the right or wrong of stale fuel ...(I happen to be in the "dont use it after 60 days Max camp") ,why bother leaving usable fuel in a machine when you are not using it ? put it in another one you are using and use it when its needed. Dont see the point of storing fuel in machines you said you come to using after a lay up. Solves any issues on the stale fuel debate one way or another if you tip it out and make use of it. Cant make use of it...Mix less so you dont have much left.

It's not difficult to empty the tank on a less used bit of kit, it just goes back into combi can. Hard part is judging the moment: Often after I drain it I find I need it again, then don't drain it again "just in case" then completely forget about it and end up with hard to start saw anyway. Definitely noticeable on some of the big or old saws, if put away dry then given fresh fuel later, seem to fire up quicker.
