Hah! That's only an air rifle pellet. Mine I think was a .303.

 

Good picture though. Shows how much damage can be done to a living tree with one of those pellets.

But concrete in cavities/ soft red brick in included bark - no real indication, just stops cutting.

Ive done the concrete in the cavity thing. Had a beech stump a few years ago which was hollow and had been filled right up. Was interesting getting it out to say the least.

I also had one. First thing I knew about it was when I blunt my saw 20ft. From there down it was entirely full of concrete, rubble, you name it. It wasn't a fun day. Fortunately I had good money on the job and didn't lose out too much. I remember I had really sore blisters on my thumb and palm of my hand from all the filing I had done.
